Ferguson is currently seeking the right individual for a new opportunity as a Packaging Engineer. The ideal candidate will lead the development and execution of product packaging design and outward facing company deliverables. The ideal candidate will have knowledge in many areas of packaging including materials selection, manufacturing processes, textiles, cosmetic detailing, testing to ensure packaging is creative and visually attractive.
Responsible for evaluating and developing packaging systems including all primary and protective secondary packaging systems products which will include product protection, package quality as defined by the market requirements, equipment efficiencies, and packaging cost optimization of current packaging systems as well as new packaging technologies.
Lead the development of product packaging from conception through final creative design
Understand packaging-related business needs and competitive marketplace
Establish ideas, concepts and prototypes to solve problems and meet customer/consumer needs
Conduct consumer research for packaging and evaluate secondary consumer research to identify consumer needs, develop category understanding and brand positioning
Supervise production of samples for marketing presentations, evaluation and testing
Identify cost optimization programs for primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging
Ensure strong specification procedures and standards are constantly applied across all programs
Design cost effective package components for efficient line production and finished product-shipping standards
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or related field required (in lieu of degree, 5-7 years of experience in related field)
3 – 5 years of experience in related field required (professional design, product and packaging design)
Knowledgeable with ArtiosCAD, CapePack and Microsoft Office
Knowledgeable with ISTA, TAPPI, and ASTM test methods for packaging
Skilled with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Knowledge of brand building, brand architecture and packaging design in the own brand / national brand environment
Understand design ideologies, brand strategies and awareness of current design trends and technologies
Knowledge of Packaging Engineering processes such as product life cycle, packaging design and change management
Strong interpersonal communication skills; excellent project management skills
Ability to work with teams on numerous projects of variable complexity
Proven ability to anticipate customer needs and deliver customer solutions
